Venue: The Beaumont Landscapes Stadium, Moore Lane, Newton Aycliffe, DL5 5AG

Live Updates: @WhickhamFC

The long wait is over, football is officially back and Whickham start their season with a trip to Newton Aycliffe.

The Lang Jacks played seven games in pre-season with the final game being their only victory as they beat BEADS FC 9-0 at The First Mortgage Glebe.

Whickham have recruited well this off-season and there will be a number of new faces in the squad this afternoon as they look to get their season underway with a victory.

The Opposition

Aycliffe go into the game off the back of three consecutive wins in pre-season, against Washington, Annfield Plain and Catterick Garrison.

In Division One, they finished 12th last season with 36 points from their 34 games, but closed the season with just three wins from 17 games.

Aycliffe has recruited well this summer with the likes of Shaun Ryder arriving from Bishop Auckland, Dean Thexton joining from Willington and Mattie Lowrie from Seaham Red Star.

Pre-Match Interview

Assistant Manager Andrew Bulford said: “We’re going to be back into that routine and not having to go shopping with the missus or anything like that.

“It’s going to be different because I’m trying to take a step back a bit this year. It is exciting really, it’s all blood and thunder in that first game – people getting stuck in.

“That’s why the Northern League is one of the best leagues in the country.”

Kick-off at The Beaumont Landscapes Stadium is at 3:00pm and admission is £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and Under-12s get in free with a paying adult.
