Whickham FC 4-3 Gateshead FC XI: Match report

With only a few friendlies left for Whickham, The Lang Jacks managed to grab another pre-season victory against an inexperienced Gateshead side who let in  goals against the home side.

Whickham opened the scoring in under a minute when Jack Robson nicked the ball off a Gateshead defender on the edge of the box before finishing into the top corner.

Liam Doyle then doubled the home sides advantage by dinking the on-rushing goalkeeper after being slipped through by Kyle Downie after 16 minutes.

Five minutes before the break the visitors pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after Tom Howard tugged the shirt of a Gateshead player inside the area.

Two goals then became three for Whickham only two minutes after they scored their second as Scott Robson fired a low driven shot into the bottom corner after being played through by Connor Newton.

The Tynesiders pulled another goal back just before half-time when a long ball by a Gateshead midfielder bounced over Whickham goalkeeper Adam Cameron allowing the striker to tap the ball into an empty net.

Only three minutes after the restart Ross Peareth powered a header home from a corner to make it 4-2 to the Lang Jacks.

Gateshead replied once more with the last act of the game when they scored with header from a whipped in cross.
