Whickham sign goalkeeper Jack Norton

Whickham are delighted to have completed the signing of goalkeeper Jack Norton.

The experienced shot-stopper moves to the First Mortgage Glebe for the 2021/22 season after leaving Spennymoor Town.

The 35-year-old, who hails from Middlesbrough, is no stranger to the Northern League, having had spells at the likes of Dunston UTS, Consett, Bedlington Terriers, Newcastle Blue Star and Guisborough Town.

Now, after a spell in the National League North with Spennymoor, he is back in the Northern League after becoming manager Mark Convery’s third capture of the summer, following on from Conor Newton and Scott Robson commiting to the club again.

Jack said: “It’s my first time at the Glebe and I can’t wait to get started.”

Convery added: “I’m very happy to have brought in such an experienced player. We had a number of goalkeepers over the last couple of seasons and we need some stability – it was a position we needed to strengthen in.”

Jack started out at Darlington where he turned professional following a three-year scholarship. He has also had spells with the likes of Gateshead, Blyth Spartans, Whitby Town, while a move to London saw him play for Hampton & Richmond Borough and then in League Two with Dagenham & Redbridge.
