Robbie Williamson signs for Whickham

Whickham are delighted to announce the signing of attacker Robbie Williamson.

The 23-year-old joins from Division Two side Birtley Town and goes straight into the squad for Tuesday night’s Northern League Division One game against West Auckland Town.

Robbie came through Sunderland’s academy before spells at Northern League sides Jarrow Roofing and Whitley Bay. His form attracted interest from professional clubs and he had trials at Fleetwood Town and Hearts, before illness stalled his footballing career.

He has scored five goals in four games for Birtley this season and is looking forward to joining the Lang Jacks.

He said: “I’ve followed Whickham for a few years with the friends I’ve had playing here, so I know what kind of club it is.

“And with the management here, it was a no-brainer.

“I can’t wait to get started. It’s a tough game going up to West Auckland but I’m sure the squad will be strong and we’ll give it a good fight. I’m really looking forward to my time at Whickham.”

Manager Mark Convery said: “We are delighted to have signed Robbie.

“We have watched him for some time and think he’s got a lot of potential that hopefully we can see at Whickham. If we can, he will be a real asset.”
