New signing Nathan Greenwood is itching to make his debut for Whickham after stepping up his efforts in training, writes ADAM TONES.
The winger joined the club last week, but was restricted to a watching brief from the bench on Friday night in the narrow 1-0 win over Newton Aycliffe under the lights at the First Mortgage Glebe.
Greenwood took full advantage of that position, and a couple of training sessions this week, to get accustomed to the demands that manager Tony Fawcett and his playing staff will be making of him and the rest of the team.
He now hopes to take that on to the pitch, hopefully starting on Saturday against Redcar Athletic (2pm kick-off).
Nathan said: ‘’I’m delighted, it’s been a good first few weeks since I’ve been here and I’ve had a good chat with Tony.
“I can’t wait to get going.’’
Greenwood joined the club after a spell with Sunderland Under-23s and with fellow Northern League side Seaham Red Star.
When asked about the differences with Whickham’s set up compared to his previous clubs, Greenwood added: ‘’I’ve noticed it’s a lot more aggressive, something I’ve got to get used to and get a bit sharper on the ball.
“I’ve been out of football for a few months but I can’t wait to get started, whether that’s coming off the bench or starting I’ll do my absolute best for the club.’’
The Redcar match will kick off at an early time of 2pm this Saturday and tickets will be available at the gate on match day. Adults £6; Concession £3.
