Whickham vs Sunderland RCA – The tale of two resilient defences

Whickham vs Sunderland RCA – Match Preview by Adam Tones

After last weekends postponed fixture away to Penrith, Whickham welcome Sunderland RCA to the First Mortgage Glebe on Saturday.

Whickham manager Tony Fawcett will be looking to stretch his unbeaten home record at the First Mortgage Glebe, to seven league games since taking over the club in October.

Whickham won their last league game 3-0 following an impressive away victory against Crook Town.

The Lang Jacks will be hoping to welcome back striker Jack Robson from injury, while George Priest and Jack Moody face late fitness tests.

Whickham may also look to hand a debut to forward Danny Barlow, the front man signed for the club over the festive period, following a 4-year scholarship in America.

Meanwhile, new signing Rhys Williams remains unavailable for the visit of Sunderland RCA.

The visitors come into the game in great form, following three wins in a row. Their last victory coming on the road against fourth place Sunderland Ryhope.

Sunderland RCA has won six of their last eight league matches, with just only one defeat in the process.

The visitors have managed to also keep seven clean sheets in their last eight league games, making it hard for the opposition to break them down.

One to watch for the home team will be Mark Davison, the striker has scored six in his last ten games in all competitions.

Sunderland RCA are currently five points and one league position above Whickham in the table. The away team have however played two games more than the Lang Jacks.

The teams last faced each other back in August at Sunderland LGV Park. The home team claiming a 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal from Craig Hennis midway through the second half.

The match will see two of the leagues in form teams come head-to head. Both teams pose well organised defences, who don’t leak many goals.

A tight game looks to be in store with both teams looking to take three vital points, and keep the pressure on the teams above them in the league.
