After last week’s thrilling victory over Ashington, Whickham look to carry on in the same vein this weekend at Northallerton Town.
After maintaining their unbeaten record at the Glebe under Tony Fawcett, the boys make the trip to bottom of the league Northallerton looking to make it three wins in a row and unbeaten in their last five.
While the overall defensive record is brilliant since Tony came in, the last two games have seen Whickham concede goals at the back, so everyone will be wanting to right that wrong this weekend. The defence is an area of great pride for Tony and the team, and provides the foundation for the team going forward.
Up the other end of the pitch, the attacking part of Whickham’s game is going from strength to strength, with 11 goals in the last four games, with contributions from all over the frontline.
While Northallerton’s league position and form are not great, it will be imperative that the lads are not complacent and play the game on the pitch, not on paper.
On the injury front, Dom Agnew missed the game against Ashington due to injury, with Dale Burrell filling in admirably in a joint-MOTM performance. Hopefully Agnew is fit to return this weekend and renew his partnership with the defence.
Here’s hoping for another good result on Saturday afternoon (weather permitting!)
