After fighting back to secure a draw last Friday under the lights, Whickham take on Thornaby on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways.
While manager Tony Fawcett will be happy with the lads’ desire and fight to get the draw on Friday evening, everyone is massively disappointed that they couldn’t come away with the three points and will be looking to put that right this weekend.
They take on a Thornaby side who are flying high in the table in second place and scoring goals for fun. However, despite their impressive league position, their recent form has been up and down, with two defeats in their last five compared to Whickham who are unbeaten in the same stretch.
A win for the Lang Jacks would see them leapfrog Sunderland RCA into 8th place with a game in hand on them, but Fawcett will be making sure that the players are solely focused on the task at hand, shitting down one of the leagues’s most potent attacking sides.
With Whickham priding themselves on their defensive prowess, Saturday will be a tough test for them coming up against Elliott Beddow and Craig Hutchinson for the opposition. They have 37 goals between them this year (19 and 18 respectively), so the defence will have to be in top form to snuff out as many chances as possible.
Another point of motivation for the Lang Jacks on Saturday afternoon will be to keep up their impressive home record under Tony, having not lost at home since he took over and thus turning the Glebe into somewhat of a fortress.
Come on down and get behind the lads as they look to claim a big scalp at home!
