Whickham 6-0 Newcastle Benfield: Six of the best for the Lang Jacks as they cruise to victory

Zak Atkinson bagged a hat trick on Tuesday evening as Whickham took care of Newcastle Benfield on Tuesday evening in impressive fashion.

The rout started just two minutes in, Dale Burrell’s header forcing a mistake at the back, allowing Jack Robson to capitalise and loop a finish over the keeper from the left hand side of the box.

Atkinson bagged his first and Whickham’s second just over five minutes later, nodding home Kaleb Young’s spectacular free kick from the left side to double the lead inside 10 minutes.

Atkinson completed the first half scoring with another header, Jack Robson crossing for him after being played through by Young in an utterly dominant first half for the Lang Jacks.

Atkinson completed his hat trick just before the hour mark, converting from the penalty spot after Jack Robson’s dribbling was interrupted by a handball from a Benfield defender.

Scott Robson got in on the scoring just after 70 mins, after Young had sold his defender down the river with some nifty footwork before spraying a inch perfect outside of the boot pass to Robson, who slotted home past the keeper.

David Below rounded off the scoring with his first goal for the club, tucking one away from the edge of the area to complete a very successful match for the Lang Jacks, who maintain their unbeaten home record under Tony Fawcett.

Kobe Bewicke and Keros Lizinde made their debuts off the bench in the second half, and it’s great to see the youth team and the u23’s producing players for the first team, something Fawcett touched on after the final whistle.

“It’s no good having youth teams and development squads if there isn’t a pathway for them (to the first team). We now want to improve that again in the summer once we come back. It was lush to get them on tonight, Kobe’s been close a couple times so it’s nice for him to finally get his debut”.

The lads are back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they travel to face Seaham Red Star.
