Whickham 3-0 Guisborough Town: Lang Jacks home finale ends in comfortable win

A brace from captain Zak Atkinson and one from his partner in crime Scott Robson ensured the Lang Jacks ended their last game of the season with a comfortable victory over Guisborough Town.

After a shaky opening 15 minutes from the home side, Atkinson opened the scoring after a shot by Jamie Dunn landed at his feet in the box, then turning it in at the far post.

Kaleb Young then fed Atkinson through down the left hand side, and he turned provider for Scott Robson to fire into the roof of the net from close range to double the lead.

Atkinson then rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time, capitalising on a thoughtless decision from the opposition keeper to step out of his box with the ball, Atkinson scoring into an empty net from 35 yards out.

It was a perfect performance from the Lang Jacks to keep the unbeaten record at home under Tony Fawcett and his staff in tact, with the run now dating back to October last year.

Atkinson and Robson had plenty of banter with each other, with Atkinson now leading the golden boot battle between the pair 15-14. However, Robson will have a chance to nab it for himself in the season ender on Friday lunchtime, with Atkinson missing through suspension.

The result on Saturday takes Whickham above Ashington to 7th in the table, where they are likely to end the season as Newton Aycliffe have 2 games in hand with the same amount of points.

Whickham end their season away at Newton Aycliffe on Good Friday, with the Lang Jacks desperate to end the season on a high.
