Whickham were beaten 4-1 at Ashington on Tuesday night.
Ben Harmison and Andrew Cartwright put the visitors two goals ahead going into the break.
A Garon Garside own goal and Craig Spooner scored in the second half for the home side whilst Dale Burrell scored for the Lang Jacks.
Whickham had some notable absentees with Scott Robson, Nathan Greenwood and Kieran Galbraith all missing.
As Whickham grew into the game throughout the first 10 minutes, Ben Harmison then opened the scoring after heading in from a cross.
Just two minutes later Joey Smith was tripped in the area by Karl Ross and was awarded a penalty, but Jamie Dunn sent the spot kick over the bar.
The lead was doubled halfway through the first half after Andrew Cartwright’s free kick was deflected, leaving Nathan Harker flat-footed and the ball going in his left-hand side bottom corner.
Just 30 seconds after the break, Ashington got a third after Garon Garside tried to clear the ball but it spun over Nathan Harker into the net.
Ashington pushed on and soon after Karl Ross delivered a ball in for Ben Harmison to head towards goal but Nathan Harker was down quickly to keep it out.
Whickham pulled a goal back in the final 10 minutes as Dale Burrell got a wonderful free kick up and over the wall, beating a full stretch Karl Dryden.
Ashington got their fourth and final goal in added time as Craig Spooner latched onto a ball in behind and lobbed Harker.
