Fawcett resigns as manager

Whickham FC manager Tony Fawcett has today resigned from his position with immediate effect.

Fawcett, who was appointed manager in October 2021, informed chairman Ben Riley of his decision this morning after being approached to take over as Consett AFC’s new manager.

Riley said: “It is with a heavy heart that I accepted Tony’s resignation. He has done a fantastic job over the last 12 months and we are extremely disappointed to lose him.

“This happens in football when you do well – other clubs look at what you are doing and want a piece of it. It happened in the summer as well.

“Tony has been a breath of fresh air at the club with the time, energy and commitment he has shown. We wish him, and his coaching team of Simon Moody, Wayne Buchanan and Chris Bannon, all the best.

“We will now begin to look for a replacement. Anybody keen on the role of manager should send expressions of interest to whickhamfc1944@gmail.com.”

The club will be making no further statement at this time.
