West Allotment Celtic 2-0 Whickham
West Allotment Celtic battled past Whickham on Friday evening to win 2-0 in difficult conditions.
Both goals came in the first half after Mikel Thompson and Mechack Kanda found the net.
The result keeps West Allotment in fifth with now a four point gap between them and ourselves in sixth.
Rain swept across Palmersville alongside strong winds which proved difficult for both teams to gain momentum.
A quarter of an hour in and the hosts had a sight of goal as the ball teed up for Lucas Lowery-Matondo on the edge of the Whickham box, but Alex Nelson recovered superbly to take the sting out of the shot and it rolled into the hands of Nick Liversedge.
The first big chance came the way of the visitors as Dan Turner beat two men and fed Tom Romano through to goal but he dragged his shot wide of the post.
The first goal arrived 10 minutes from half time as the hosts took the lead as Thompson found a yard of space outside the area and hit a powerful low shot into the bottom corner.
The second came on the stroke of half time after a swift counter attack which resulted in Kanda receiving the ball towards the back post and he calmly finished.
Into the second half and The Lang Jacks upped their levels as Shay Richardson won the ball in the Allotment penalty area, which he pulled back to Romano but his shot went narrowly wide of the far post.
15 minutes later it was almost three as Lowery-Matondo struck a low shot but Liversedge was equal to it.
It wasn’t long before another big chance came and went for Whickham as Turner carried the ball into the box and let fly with the ball heading into the corner, but was superbly stopped by Daniel Gladstone who made himself big.
In the depths of added on time Cyril Giraud was on the end of a fast-paced counter attack but his shot from 10 yards was deflected over.
