Whickham 2-0 North Shields

Whickham maintained their 100% record at home in the league after beating North Shields 2-0 at the First Mortgage Glebe on Tuesday evening. 

Goals in the first half from Callum Munro and Scott Robson was enough to give the Lang Jacks their third win in a row in all competitions.

North Shields started the brightest of the two teams and came close to scoring after just three minutes through a Joe Robson header which was brilliantly saved by Aaron Steavens. 

Whickham’s first chance came on twenty three minutes as Scott Robson was played through but his effort was saved by the legs of Hodgson. 

Robson came close again just four minutes later as his volley from 20 yards went just past the post from a Callum Munro knockdown.

Five minutes later Whickham’s pressure paid off as a Dan Marriott pass was brilliantly controlled by Robson to take away the defender and his low shot beat Hodgson into the bottom corner.

Whickham scored again just two minutes later through Callum Munro as his superb volley from 25 yards flew into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance.

Minutes after the restart Shay Richardson played through Dale Burrell but his effort was saved by the on rushing Hodgson.

Midway through the second half Scott Robson was once again played through but his effort was saved by Hodgson and from the rebound his overhead kick went just past the post. 

Whickham managed the latter stages of the game really well and seen out the win to move the Lang Jacks up to Sixth place with a game in hand on teams above.
