A Tough Battle at Benfield

Newcastle Benfield 1-2 Whickham FC

By Adam Beresford

Whickham were back in action at the home of Newcastle Benfield on Tuesday where they walked
away with a 2-1 victory following a brace from the red hot Scott Robson.

The Lang Jacks started the game well and were rewarded just 4 minutes in when Scott Robson
latched onto a long ball from the Whickham defence and the power in the shot beat the keeper.

The rest of the first half had little chances to show other than an effort again from Scott Robson
which was fired over following good work by Eddie Thomas.

The second half started and the hosts were showing signs of threat as Sam Johnson was forced to
cleared one off the line after a good header from a Benfield corner.

However despite the pressure from the hosts, that man again Scott Robson was at the double in
the 64th minute as he cooly got past the keeper and finished calmly into the side netting.

Benfield did respond straight after when a shot from Noah Millington was saved well but Harvey Russell
was there to convert the tap-in.

Late on in the game Scott Robson had a chance to grab his hatrick, but his shot was straight at the
keeper.

A great performance from Whickham on the road saw them clinch the 3 points and gain
momentum for the remainder of the season.
