Friday Night Joy In Yorkshire

Northallerton Town 1-5 Whickham

The Lang Jacks ran out emphatic winners in North Yorkshire on Friday evening beating Northallerton Town.

Eddie Thomas and Dale Burrell headed us into a two-goal lead in the first half.

A Nathan Stephenson double and a Scott Robson strike in the second-half capped off the evening, with a Sonni Coleman penalty in the middle of the Stephenson strikes.

Whickham started on the front foot and took the lead inside four minutes as Jack Elliott made his way to the byline and floated a cross to the back post which Eddie Thomas rose highest to and nodded in.

The lead was doubled 20 minutes later as Dale Burrell met a Nathan Stephenson corner and his header deflected off Haase leaving goalkeeper Norton with no time to react.

The home side grew into the game towards the end of the first period and had a flurry of chances.

The best of which came from a Jack Raper free kick which met the head of Drummond and his header across goal narrowly went wide of the post.

On the hour mark the lead was extended as Robson drove towards the penalty area where he was tackled which allowed the ball to fall to Elliott who laid the ball to Stephenson, who took one touch and fired into the bottom corner.

The hosts pulled a goal back minutes after from the penalty spot after Sam Johnson fouled inside the area, which Sonni Coleman stepped up to take and smashed straight down the middle.

Lee Haldane’s men kept pressure on though and substitute Dan Atkinson tried to delicately curl a strike in from 25 yards but it looped just over the bar.

Stephenson grabbed his second not long after as the ball fell to him 20 yards out and his pinpoint strike went in via the inside of the post.

It was the former Northallerton Player of the Season’s first start in three months after recovering from an injury sustained against FC Hartlepool in the Durham Challenge Cup.

It took a whole 85 minutes but Scott Robson finally got on the scoresheet after Elliott was once again provider and Robson struck with power from 10 yards out which Norton got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.
