Stalemate In Final Home Clash Of The Season

Whickham 1-1 West Allotment Celtic

There was little to separate Whickham and West Allotment Celtic on Friday evening in what was the final fixture at The First Mortgage Glebe in 2023/24.

Whickham took the lead in the first-half after Jacob Forster turned the ball into his own net from a corner.

Allotment drew level in the second 45 through a Connor Campbell Strike.

It was a frantic start to proceedings in NE16 as just 90 seconds in, Campbell found an opening in the Whickham penalty area and struck the crossbar.

The Lang Jacks took the lead a minute later however as Jordan Lavery whipped a corner to the back post which bounced unorthodoxly and struck Jacob Forster, before deflecting into his own net.

A quarter of an hour in Daniel Gladstone made a smart stop from a Nathan Stephsenon free kick which he hit towards the goalkeepers near post, which Gladstone tipped onto the post.

The visitors came close just before half-time as Forster slipped through Campbell one-on-one but Bussey did well to spread himself and deny the number nine.

On the hour mark West Allotment came closer as Joe Robson’s head met a corner which was cleared off the line by Lewis Leech.

They did however find the net soon after as Campbell struck from close range which Bussey saved but he was well-placed to finish the rebound.

Whickham did have a chance to retake the lead when Jack Elliott found the run of Scott Robson but his shot from an angle went wide of the post.

Whickham XI: Bussey; Howard © (Leech), Agnew, T.Galbraith (Munro), Lavery (Johnson); Atkinson (Smith), Martindale, Stephenson; Elliott, Robson, Bisset (Thomas).
