Season Ending Defeat On The Coast

North Shields 3-0 Whickham

It was a disappointing end to a season that has had many highs on Friday night with a defeat in North Shields.

Dean Holmes gave The Robins an early lead in the first-half.

It was a Ben Harrison double later on that sunk the Lang Jacks to an underwhelming finale of the season.

North Shields took the lead with first chance of the encounter eight minutes in as Dean Holmes drove into the box and unleashed a powerful strike into the bottom corner.

Whickham came close to pulling level almost instantly as Tom Howard looped as ball into the path of Scott Robson who tried to spectacularly hit it on the half-volley from 25 yards out and it went narrowly wide.

The Robins were denied a second soon after when Dan Savage rounded Neal Bussey and shot but Callum Munro was on the line to make the intervention.

Just before the hour mark it was 2-0 as Ben Harmison connected with corner delivered by Holmes and it was too powerful for Bussey to react to.

Two minutes later it was the same combination of Holmes and Harrison who combined for third of the evening.

Whickham XI: Bussey; Munro, Agnew, Burrell (C), Charlton; Howard (Gray), Smith, Atkinson (Martindale); Thomas, Robson, Johnson.

Unused Subs: Lavery, T.Galbraith.
