Scott Robson leaves Whickham

Whickham FC are saddened to reveal that Scott Robson has left the club after rejecting a new contract.

The striker has been at the club for five seasons, scoring 105 goals in 162 games.

Last season was a stellar one for Scott. He was named Northern League Player of the Season and finished top goalscorer, finding the net 37 times in Division One and 56 times in total in 48 games.

That saw the 24-year-old attract attention from a number of clubs and while Whickham FC had hoped to retain his services, the player has decided to continue his footballing career at the next level.

Chairman Ross Gregory said: “We agreed a new contract with Scott at the start of May and he was due to sign it on Saturday but on Friday he informed the club he had changed his mind and wanted to play elsewhere.

“While we are naturally devastated to lose a player of Scott’s ability, we wish him all the best in his next steps. He is an outstanding forward who we have watched develop from a raw but exciting teenager to one of the most sought-after non-league strikers in the region.

“We had hoped Scott would continue to grow with us and help us achieve our aims but that wasn’t to be.

“Scott and his family are always welcome at the First Mortgage Glebe and we look forward to seeing how his career progresses.

“The club, led by manager Lee Haldane, has been hard at work this summer lining up a number of new players to complement the quality, committed players we still have in our squad. We remain focused on our core priorities as a club which includes identifying We will make a number of announcements in due course.”

Manager Lee Haldane added: “Scott has been an immense player for me over the last 18 months and always given his best for which we are all grateful. We wish him all the best.”

The first team returns to pre-season training on Wednesday for the first session. A number of friendlies have been arranged and more details will follow.
