Whickham 1-4 Blyth Town
It was a lacklustre return to the First Mortgage Glebe on Tuesday evening for the Lang Jacks as Division One newcomers Blyth Town ran riot.
There was little to separate the two sides until on the stroke of half-time when George Hayton bundled in the ball at the back post off the back of a set piece.
Whickham levelled five minutes after the break as Levi Collins lofted a ball into the path of Lucas Lowery who took the ball around Lewis Baker in the Blyth goal and slotted home his first for the club.
The visitors retook the lead through Adam Johnson moments after the restart as he tapped home at the back post from a cross.
Liam Wotherspoon made it three with twenty minutes to go and Dan Wilson scored fourth – minutes after he was denied from the penalty spot as Neal Bussey made his second penalty stop in as many games.
Whickham XI: Bussey; Munro (c), Nelson, Lavery, Charlton; Moan, Smith, Stephenson; Lowery, Collins, Brewis.
Substitutes: Agnew, Hardy, Marriott, Peareth, Neary.
Referee: J.Whitfield
