FA Cup joy against Carlisle City

Whickham 1-0 Carlisle City

The Lang Jacks battled past Carlisle City in dismal conditions in NE16 on Friday evening to progress to the FA Cup Preliminary round.

Romeo Park was dismissed in the first 45 for kicking out at Lucas Lowery off the ball, which was the only real talking point of the half.

Jordan Lavery calmly stepped up from 12 yards late in the second-half to score the only goal of the evening.

The first effort of note came 15 minutes into the tie when Mason Hardy – making his full debut for the club – struck from 25 yards and was denied by the post.

Just after the half hour mark Romeo Park was given his marching orders after kicking out at Lucas Lowery off the ball – which was the first red card of the 2024/25 FA Cup.

After the half-time interval the Lang Jacks upped the impetus as a minute in Lucas Lowery jinked past Kieron Olsen inside the area and fired at a comfortable height for Stephen Townsley to push past the post.

Not long after Dom Agnew rose to meet a Jordan Lavery inswinging corner but his header clattered into the bar.

The breakthrough finally came 10 minutes from the 90 as Levi Collins chased down a ball in behind and beat City goalkeeper Townsley to it, and he brought the striker down.

Jordan Lavery stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom left-hand corner.

The win sets up a Preliminary round clash against neighbours Dunston UTS at the First Mortgage Glebe, with the date yet to be finalised for the clash.
