Shildon 2-3 Whickham
The Lang Jacks came out on the right side of a five-goal thriller at Shildon on Saturday afternoon in EBAC Northern League Division One.
Andrei-Vasile Ardelean opened the scoring for the hosts within seconds and that was cancelled out Lucas Lowery soon after but they regained the lead late in the half via Jon Weirs.
Two special strikes from Mason Hardy and Cam Brewis in the second 45 gave their side their first points of the season.
It was a quick start to the encounter as just 40 seconds in a mistake from Kyle Arrington allowed for Ardelean to tap in a cross and give his side the dream start.
The response from the away side was full of intensity as the proceeding 20 minutes saw Whickham have most of the ball but could’t find an opening.
The equaliser did then appear as a quick throw-in from Brewis found Lowery who brought the ball down impeccably and slotted past Shaun Newbrook into the corner.
The Railwaymen came close after as Luke Spalding pulled the ball back to Ben Reay whose shot deflected and narrowly rolled past Neal Bussey’s far post.
They did net their second at the death of the first-half as Spalding set the ball to the edge of the area and Weirs hammered the ball into the bottom corner.
It was another inspiring response from Whickham as into the second-half the equaliser came from Hardy who curled the ball from 20 yards into the bottom corner.
15 minutes later a third was almost found as Errington played a superb through pass with the outside of his boot to send Brewis on his way but Newbrook made himself big and won the one-on-one battle.
A minute later Brewis produced a goal of the season contender as Lowery teed up the midfielder to hammer the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out.
