A vital afternoon of football awaits the Lang Jacks as they bid to stay in the Northern League Division One when they travel to Kendal Town on Saturday afternoon.
Whickham were in cup action Tuesday night but came away empty-handed following a disappointing 4-0 loss against Shildon AFC in the Durham FA Challenge Cup final.
Now the Lang Jacks attentions turn back towards the league with safety the priority.
Matchday Information
Venue: The Westmorland Flooring Stadium, LA9 5HD
Date: Saturday, April 19
Kick-off: 3:00 pm
Tickets: Adults £7, OAPs £5, U16s £1, U12s free (with a paying adult)
The Scenario
Whickham sits one place and two points ahead of the final relegation spot, which is currently occupied by Seaham Red Star.
Red Star travel to 16th-placed Birtley Town, while West Allotment Celtic host fourth-placed Boro Rangers. Tony Fawcett’s side sits one point behind West Allotment with a better goal difference.
Three points against Kendal will secure the Lang Jacks’ safety in the Northern League Division One.
What The Lang Jacks Are Saying
Speaking after Tuesday’s Durham FA Challenge Cup final defeat, Whickham manager Tony Fawcett said: “Regardless of what the score was going to be after the game [on Tuesday], we were going to have to reset, somehow, and go again Saturday, whether it was off a loss or a win.
“We’ll have to pick the lads up over the next few days, and it’s a massive game at the weekend, so we’re going to have to reset somehow.”
The Opposition
Kendal sits one place outside the play-offs in sixth in the Northern League Division One.
The Mintcakes, however, cannot finish in the play-offs as they are currently four points behind fifth-placed Blyth Town with one game remaining.
Saturday’s hosts have been in great form of late, picking up 12 points across their last six games.
Last Time Out
The two sides last met at the First Mortgage Glebe in November last year, with Kendal leaving the North East with all three points.
Josh Winder and James Bailey put the visitors in the driving seat before half-time. Second-half goals from Matt Dudley and Finley Lynch secured Kendal’s 4-0 victory over the Lang Jacks.
