CLUB STATEMENT: Committee Restructure

Whickham FC are delighted to announce a restructure of its committee which will see a new executive board created to deal with the running of the club and the long-term strategy.

The new executive committee will see Ross Gregory remain as chairman, with Lynn Ready and Barry Wake moving into vice chair roles. Lynn will be responsible for football operations with Barry taking the lead on club development. The rest of the structure will see Ben Riley remaining as commercial director and Alan Walton as treasurer. There will also be a representative from Whickham FC Youth appointed.

The remainder of the committee will be tasked with working operations on a weekly basis to support the executive board and the first team management, led by Tony Fawcett.

Chairman Ross Gregory said: “I’m delighted that Lynn and Barry have agreed to the joint role of vice chairs. Lynn has put an incredible amount of time and effort into the club in her role as secretary and will combine this with overseeing football operations including matchday and ground operations at the First Mortgage Glebe.

“Barry has come on board in recent months and has already brought some fresh ideas to the club. His experience of club development in previous roles will help us move forward with creating a stronger bond with our fantastic junior section as well as working alongside Lynn on grants and ground development, and Ben on the commercial side.

“As a club, we know we underperformed last season on and off the pitch. We have grown a lot over the past five years but as with any football club there will be highs and lows.

“On the pitch, we lost almost the entire squad from the successful 2023/24 campaign over the summer and the first couple of months of the season, and a rebuild is always going to take some time. Results suffered but we still shouldn’t have been in the position of fighting relegation, and we don’t want a repeat of that. We are now in a crucial next phase of the rebuild and we will be supporting Tony and his team with that over the summer.

“Off the pitch too, we stagnated. We haven’t developed the First Mortgage Glebe in a way I’d like and that will be a real focus for the new committee structure.

“However, there are a lot of incredibly positive things happening at the club. We are financially sound, we have seen crowds grow over the last five years, our junior section is thriving and we have a superb, loyal, dedicated committee behind the scenes. We are in real need of some extra committee members, however, to help out this hard-working bunch. In particular we are advertising for a matchday secretary, a commercial manager, a cafe manager, a programme editor and some matchday stewards.”
