Recap
Matty Pattison and Dale Burrell were both on the score sheet, but Whickham were edged out 3-2 away at Shildon.
The Lang Jacks were awarded a penalty after Burrell was fouled in the area and took the lead when Pattison calmly slotted the spot-kick into the net on 21 minutes.
Shildon responded within a minute with debutant Dean Thexton scoring his first goal for the Railwaymen.
Billy Greulich-Smith and David Palmer scored around the hour mark to give the hosts a two-goal cushion.
Burrell halved the deficit on 75 minutes to give the visitors a chance of picking up a point and they went within inches of doing so when Tom Howard struck the crossbar on 80 minutes.
Pattison’s men have back-to-back home games next week. Consett are the visitors on Wednesday evening before Sunderland RCA come to the First Mortgage Glebe next Saturday afternoon.
